Horror Movie – Final Idea

For our groups project, we decided to go with a classic murder horror story as you can stay to a stereotypical storyline but include some new twists and turns to the story to make it original. We wanted to show this completely in the first two minutes as these are the most important minutes of any movie, as they tell the audience what type of movie it will be. This is also what makes the audience want to carry on watching the movie as it’s when they create the first impressions. To do this we will have a murder happen in the two minutes as it will catch the audience out as the murder isn’t even hinted at until the last 20 seconds.

For our two minute sequence we are going to use the subgenre ‘found-footage’ to film everything as it means the audience get to feel like they are part of the scene which will be able to build up suspense. This also allows us to have a story behind why they are on the beach (they are media students trying to get photos for one of their projects). This also gets an insight into the characters as it reveals that they are between 16-19 due to them being in college.

We decided to have a killer but have them in dark clothing and hide their face so it makes it seem like they are a shadow, which makes the audience not know who the killer is. This leaves a lot of the horror up to the own imagination with the use of speculation, as they are left wondering who it is and why they’re doing it. I like the use of this as it makes the audience want to watch more of the movie to answer the questions and if the questions aren’t answered in the actual movie, they will talk and question it once the movie is over. This could lead to them talking to their friends about it, which could cause them to go and watch it and this would lead to more money.

Finally, if there was one thing that I could change about what my groups final idea is, it would be to have a mixture of camera angles instead of just having it hand-held. This is so the audience can see the reaction on the actors while still including what is happening in front of them. I feel like this will allow more horror to be built up, as the audience will miss somethings out, when the angles are changing or if the camera is facing the other way.

The Plot

Ryan and Charlie are woundering around by the seaside when they find a nice place to take photos, while Lola is above them on a bridge getting a different view. Charlie and Ryan find a good spot to take photos but after taking the photos and talking for a while they turn around to find that Lola isn’t where she was before. This doesn’t alarm them at first but after a while, they become scared as they here screams close by. They go to check the surroundings, but after searching for a while they come across nothing but a large dark tunnle. They go inside but the camera reveals Lola’s body at the far end of the tunnel. They rush to find out what happened but they see a large dark shadow coming towards them. They quickly pick up Lola and sprint out of the tunnel leaving behind the camera.
